Appraisals

AppraisalsAppraisals should be carried out both systematically and consistently. It is a system that can both reward and discipline employees, a means by which employees can be coached and counselling and a vehicle through with improvements to performance levels can be negotiated. It also provides an opportunity for discussion about ways in which the working environment can be improved so as to facilitate better performance on the part of individuals and groups of staff. Moreover, it has the potential to fulfil a range of other organisational objectives to include raising the morale of employees, help clarify expectations and duties, improve upward an downward communication, reinforce management control, help validate selection decisions, provide information to support them in their role, identify development opportunities and improve workforce perception of organisational goals.

It can also be used to provide information on which to base the selection of individuals for promotion and redundancy.
